Darin S. Conkright, the U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys Garrison commander.</span><br style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;" /><br style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;" /><span style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;">After the aerial tour, Odierno visited the new Army Family Housing, which opened in March 2013. When completed, Camp Humphreys will become the largest U.S. Army garrison in Asia.</span><br style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;" /><br style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;" /><span style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;">Following the brief, the CSA's party visited the site of the new Brian Allgood Army Community Hospital and Camp Humphreys Dental Clinic, which broke ground in November 2012. According to officials, the new hospital will contain 68 beds and be able to support 65,000 eligible beneficiaries and 5,000 annual inpatient admissions. <strong>Analysis:</strong> The SAW is being phased out with the 
Infantry Automatic Weapon, which looks a lot like a fully automatic M16 
(which America had in Vietnam, but discontinued).<br />

The replacement is not well received by many troops.<br />

The SAW is gas operated, open bolt, and with a hundred round drum, 
the sheer amount of lead that can be dumped on the enemy has made it a 
favorite among small-unit leaders worldwide.<br />

The Mk-19 Automatic Grenade Launcher is by far the most specialized 
crew-served weapon in the infantry.<br />

It's also one of the most deadly, which is why it was banned from the battlefield in the final years of the Iraq War.<br />

enemy positions allowed by the GBU-28 and after the US sold Israel 100 
of the bombs in 2005, it sold a batch to South Korea in 2009. The South 
received them just months after the North's successful nuclear test in 
May of that year.<br />

regarding upgrades and costs. Still, it's a Main Battle Tank and for 
shock and awe on the ground, up close and personal there's no replacing 
it.<br />

coordinate fire to a ten-digit grid on the ground. Its pilots are 
notoriously cocky and more than willing to jump into the fight.<br />

<strong>Analysis: </strong>Remember all the talk of bombs flying through windows and down chimneys during Gulf War I? Not without a JDAM Kit.<br />

Shortly after Desert Storm in the early 90s, the Air Force started 
R&D on guided bombs, what they came up with was the JDAM Kit, which 
essentially took existing "dumb" bombs and turned them into guided 
munitions.<br />

Now, they've become a favorite of troops on the ground engaging in 
combined arms battles. A JDAM can be guided in via a simple map, or 
"lased" by a troop on the ground.<br />

 the planet, much less the American military. <strong>Furthermore, it can carry a B61 nuclear weapon,</strong> while flying stealth. </span><br />

<span>Its maneuverability has been called into question, but experts 
agree the 5th Generation fighter can duke it out in the air as well.</span><br />

AT4 Anti-Tank Weapon

The AT4 weapon is a light, portable and unguided anti-tank weapon. It
 is manufactured by the Swedish company "Saab Bofors Dynamics" and 
typically fires a single shot missile. The AT4 was developed to help 
infantry soldiers effectively disable and destroy armoured vehicles in 
combat. The weapon’s light weight and portability allow the AT4 to also 
be used within confined spaces such as buildings and bunkers.<br />

Owing to its portability and effectiveness, the AT4 has become one of
 the most widely used anti-tank weapons in the world. Countries that use
 the weapon include the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, the 
Netherlands, France, Poland, Brazil, and Ireland. The AT4 launcher is 
usually discarded after a single missile or projectile has been fired. 
And, while the AT4 is formally known as an anti-tank weapon, it is not 
powerful enough to destroy most main battle tanks, which are extremely 
well fortified.<br />

<strong>Panama to Iraq</strong><br />

The U.S. military began using the AT4 weapon in the early 1980s. 
Since then it has been used in combat during the U.S. Invasion of Panama
 as well as in current military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 
AT4 has been used against a range of armoured vehicles and enemy 
locations such as buildings, bunkers and camps. Saab Bofors Dynamics has
 manufactured about 600,000 AT4 weapons since the early 1980s.<br />

Each AT4 costs about US$1,500.00 to purchase. The weapon weighs about
 15 pounds fully loaded and has an effective range of 500 meters. The

Firing one million rounds of ammunition per minute has earned the 
Metal Storm Stacked Projectile a citation in the Guinness Book of 
Records as the world’s fastest firearm. The Metal Storm device was 
conceived by James Michael O’Dwyer, an Australian inventor. The weapon 
is now being developed by Metal Storm Ltd., a research and development 
company based in Brisbane, Australia that has a subsidiary in Arlington,

The Metal Storm Stacked Projectile combines the barrel and magazine, 
and eliminates the need for a traditional firing mechanism. When the 
weapon’s trigger is pulled electronic impulses are sent directly to the 
bullets, which ignite them at an incredibly fast rate of 16,000 rounds a
 second. The bullets are fired from several barrels at once. This is 
essentially the same design as a "Roman Candle" firework. Metal Storm 
also has the ability to fire grenades at a rate of a half-a-million

Adding to the Metal Storm weapon’s deadly power is the fact that it 
can operate autonomously using an advanced motion detection system. 
Metal Storm can be left unattended on a battlefield to detect enemy 
soldiers or vehicles passing by and then open fire on them. Military 
analysts claim that the Metal Storm Stacked Projectile could be used 
against tough vehicles such as tanks and armoured personnel carriers. 
The weapon has been featured on television programs on the BBC and 
Discovery Channel.<br /><br />Despite the attention being paid to the Metal 
Storm Stacked Projectile, it remains a weapon that is under development.

WASHINGTON: The United States has cut back 
sharply on drone strikes in Pakistan after the government asked for 
restraint while it seeks peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban, the 
Washington Post reported on Tuesday.<br />

The Post quoted a US official as saying, “That's what they asked for,
 and we didn't tell them no.” The newspaper said there had been a lull 
in such attacks since December, the longest break since 2011.<br />

The newspaper said the Obama administration indicated it would 
continue carrying out strikes on senior Al Qaeda officials if they were 
to become available or to thwart any immediate threat to Americans.<br />

Reuters was not immediately able to confirm the report.<br />

The Post quoted a senior Obama administration official as denying an informal agreement had been 
reached, saying, “The issue of whether to negotiate with the Pakistani Taliban is entirely an internal matter for Pakistan.” <br />

While some Pakistanis welcome the strikes, saying they kill fewer 
civilians and are more effective against Taliban militants than 
traditional military operations, others argue the strikes still cause 
civilian casualties, terrify residents and violate Pakistani 
sovereignty.<br />

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said he wants the drone strikes to end.<br />

The Post said the current US pause came after a November strike that killed Pakistani Taliban leader 
Hakimullah Mehsud.<br />

That attack took place a day after the premier's National Security 
and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz was quoted as saying the United 
States had promised not to conduct drone strikes while the government 
tries to engage the Taliban in peace talks.<br />

An annual study by a British-based organisation found that CIA drone 
strikes against militants in Pakistan killed no more than four civilians
 last year, the lowest number of reported civilian deaths since the 
drone program began in 2004.</div>

US Army Corps of Engineers says it has the authority to grant Georgia water

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in documents released Tuesday that it can legally grant a 2000 request from Georgia to get 705 million gallons of water per day from Lake Lanier on the Chattahoochee River by 2030. The federal agency said it will need to conduct an environmental review before making any final decisions on exactly how much water Atlanta should get.<br />
Federal officials said Georgia would have to live up to its promise to return more than 100 million gallons of treated water daily to the lake.<br />
The corps’ decision became public after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to intervene in a dispute over metro Atlanta’s use of water from a federal reservoir that serves all three southeastern states.<br />
The Chattahoochee River flows past Atlanta, then runs along the border of Alabama and Georgia. It merges with the Flint River at the Florida border to form the Apalachicola River, which cuts through the Florida Panhandle and empties into the Gulf of Mexico.<br />
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal said he welcomed the corps’ report as federal officials prepare to decide how much water Atlanta can get.<br />
If it’s fully granted, Atlanta-area water officials expect their old request for water might serve the region longer than the originally projected 2030 because conservation steps and a bad economy have reduced water use.<br />
Although the latest court rulings have been favorable to metro Atlanta, they do not mean the legal dispute is over. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley said the corps must still make additional reviews before deciding to release more water to Atlanta. As part of that process, Army officials must consider downstream views.
