ویٹیکن حکام سے بچوں کے جنسی استحصال میں ملوث پادریوں کو فوری طور پر 
مذہبی منصب سے ہٹانے اور انہیں سول حکام کے حوالے کرنے کا مطالبہ کردیا ہے۔</strong><br />

بچوں کے حقوق کے حوالے سے کام کرنے والے اقوام متحدہ کی کمیٹی نے اپنی 
رپورٹ میں کہا ہے کہ ویٹیکن پادریوں کی جانب سے جنسی استحصال کا شکار ہونے 
والے ہزاروں بچوں کی تفصیلات بھی فراہم کرے تاکہ اس گھناؤنے فعل میں ملوث 
ان پادریوں کے خلاف کارروائی کی جا سکے۔ رپورٹ ميں کمیٹی نے اس بات پر 
تشویش کا اظہار کیا کہ ویٹیکن کی جانب سے اس جرم پر توجہ نہیں دی گئی اور 
نہ ہی ایسے اقدامات کیے گئے جن سے  بچوں کو چرچ میں جنسی استحصال سے  بچایا
 جا سکے، کمیٹی نے اپنی رپورٹ ميں کہا ہے کہ ویٹیکن کی جانب سے ایسے 
اقدامات اور پالیسیاں بنائی گئیں جن کی وجہ جنسی استحصال کے واقعات اب بھی 
جاری ہیں۔<br />

رپورٹ میں انکشاف کیا گیا کہ بچوں کے جنسی استحصال کے ذمہ داروں کو ایک 
علاقے سے دوسرے علاقے یا ایک ملک سے دوسرے ملک  منتقل کیا گیا تاکہ ان کے 
جرائم کو تحفظ فراہم کیا جا سکے، رپورٹ میں اس بات پر زودر دیا گیا ہے کہ 
 پوپ فرانسز کی جانب سے بنائے گئے کمیشن کو بچوں کے جنسی استحصال کے تمام 
کیسز کی تحقیقات کرنی چاہیے۔<br />

ایکسپریس نیوز کے مطابق سری لنکن کرکٹ بورڈ کے ایگزیکٹو کمیٹی کے اجلاس 
میں اراکین نے بگ تھری کے مسودے کی مخالفت کرتے ہوئے پیش کردہ تجاویز کو 
مسترد کردیا، ایگزیکٹیو کمیٹی کا کہنا تھا کہ آئی سی سی پر قبضے کی تمام 
سازشوں کا ڈٹ کر مقابلہ کیا جائے گا۔<br />
واضح رہے کہ دبئی میں آئی سی سی کے اجلاس میں پاکستان نے بگ تھری کے 
معاملے پر جو واضح مؤقف اختیار کیا تھا اس کی  جنوبی افریقا، ویسٹ انڈیز، 
سری لنکا اور بنگلادیش نے بھی حمایت کی تھی جب کہ جنوبی افریقن کرکٹ بورڈ 
کے صدر کا اس حوالے سے کہنا تھا جنوبی افریقا بگ تھری کے معاملے پر پاکستان
 کے ساتھ کھڑا ہے اور اب سری لنکا نے بھی باضابطہ طور پر پاکستان کے مؤقف 
کی حمایت کردی ہے۔<br />

بگ تھری کے معاملے پر انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کونسل کا آئندہ اجلاس 8 فروری کو 
سنگاپور میں ہوگا جب کہ آئی سی سی کے صدر ایلن آئزک  کا کہنا ہے کہ بگ تھری
 کے معاملے پر تمام اراکین اس اجلاس میں کسی نہ کسی نتیجے پر پہنچ جائیں 
گے۔</div>

Brazilian authorities today announced that they will strengthen their
 crackdown on cocaine smuggling along the Western border regions of the 
nation.

With an estimated 2 million cocaine users, Brazil is the world’s second 
largest consumer of cocaine, behind the United States. The past decade 
has seen the number of cocaine addicts increasing by many times. In 
2003, it was estimated that there were just 200,000 cocaine users in 
Barzil. The ease of availability of the contraband, from across the 
border from nations like Bolivia, Colombia, and Peru are being blamed 
for the recent spike in the number of addicts.  <br />
<br />
Oslain Santana, an official with the Brazilian national police 
claimed that the surge in demand for the hard drugs can be associated 
with the rapid economic growth achieved by the nation during the last 
few years. He said that the drug traffickers have been attracted by the 
rise in per-capita spending. Recent estimates suggest that the Brazilian
 economy is growing at a pace, which is much greater when compared to 
that of its neighbours. <br />
The law enforcement officials claimed that although Colombia is being
 regarded as one of the major sources of cocaine and its derivatives 
worldwide, just 10% of the drug available in the Brazilian market 
originates from that nation. The remaining 90% originates from Brazil’s 
neighbours Bolivia and Peru, both of whom shares a long and porous 
border with Brazil. The officials also said that Brazil’s southern 
neighbour, Paraguay is the leading supplier of the opiate drug Marijuana
 to the Brazilian market, contributing to as much as 80% of the total. <br />
Dilma Rousseff, the Brazilian president had kick-started a nationwide
 campaign for the eradication of the drug smuggling operations late last
 year, targeting large-scale as well as small scale drug dealers. 
Thousands of drug smugglers have been jailed as a result of the new 
crackdown, which involves both the national police, and the Brazilian 
Armed Forces. A total of 24 tonnes of cocaine was seized by the law 
enforcement officials during last year. <br />

This week, some 17,000 soldiers were deployed along the southern and 
western borders of Brazil, for a massive anti-narcotics operation, which
 was termed as Operation Agata 5. Some 3,500 members of the national

Brazil.and Guyana decided on this week to cement their mutual defence relationship and military cooperation.<br />

Both the nations also decided to jointly use the Sistema de Vigilância 
da Amazônia (SIVAM, Brazilian Amazon Surveillance Integrated System) to 
prevent environment degradation in the Amazonian region. SIVAM was 
developed by the Brazil engineers recently, and the system uses 
satellite technology to monitor activities which can hamper the 
ecological balance in the Amazon rainforest region, such as illegal gold
 mining, illegal poaching and deforestation. <br />

The announcement about the bilateral defence cooperation was made by 
the Brazilian defence minister Celso Amorim, who is currently 
undertaking an official visit to Guyana. Amorim is accompanied by senior
 officials from the Brazilian Armed Forces, and other diplomatic and 
ministerial staff. Apart from the cooperation in the defence field, 
Amorim said that bilateral cooperation between the two sides in other 
sectors, such as trade and technology exchange will also be 
strengthened.    <br />

Amorim met the Guyanese Secretary to the Defence Board, Dr. Roger 
Luncheon, as well as other senior officials from the defence ministry. 
After the meeting both sides decided to set up a Guyana/Brazil Bilateral
 Defence Working Group (BDWG), to monitor the progress made in bilateral
 defence ties. <br />

It was also decided during the meeting to offer training courses in 
Brazilian military institutions to the officers from the Guyanese armed 
forces, as well as to extend the collaboration in the defence 
procurement sector. Brazil also agreed to send military advisors to its 
northern neighbour, to help the Guyanese armed forces in their routine 
military operations.  <br />

Amorim also held talks with Donald Ramotar, the Guyanese president. 
The local media reported that the Brazilian ambassador to Guyana, Luiz 
Seixas De Andrade had also accompanied Amorim during his meeting with 
the Guyanese president. Later the Brazilian minister held meetings with 
the Guyanese Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, and the National Minister for 
Foreign Affairs, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.</div>

Army looking for gear to protect troops from AK-47 bullets

New Delhi: For providing its personnel protection against the lethal 
bullets of rifles such as AK-47, the Indian Army has issued tenders to 
procure around two lakh bullet-proof jackets and helmets for its troops 
deployed in counter-insurgency operations.<br /><br />
The two tenders were issued last year under Army's modernisation 
programme of its Infantry soldiers known as the Future-Infantry Soldier 
as a System (F-INSAS) under which it will acquire?1,86,168 bulletproof 
jackets for its personnel along with ballistic helmets with internal 
communication gear.<br /><br />
"We have participated in both the tenders to supply these bullet-proof 
jackets and ballistic helmets with internal communication facilities," 
Indian firm MKU's Managing Director Neeraj Gupta said here.<br /><br />

He said his firm has responded to the bids issued by the Army under 
the category in which only six Indian vendors have been allowed to 
compete.<br /><br />
Gupta said after acquiring a German manufacturing facility, his firm has
 supplied protective gear to more than 100 international forces and they
 have been used by them in conflict zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan.<br /><br />
As per the Army's requirement, it wants jackets with hard armour plates 
for front, rear, sides, upper arms, groin and throat, capable of 
protecting against 7.62mm x 39mm mild steel core ammunition fired from 
an AK-47 from 10 metres.<br /><br />

The Army is deployed in counter-insurgency operations for several 
decades in North East and Jammu and Kashmir and has been facing shortage
 of these protective gear as pointed out by the Comptroller and Auditor 
General in its recent report.<br /><br />
Gupta said his firm is looking towards providing armoured protection to 
military helicopters that operate in insurgent and terrorist-infested 
areas in the country.<br />

China,Pakistan set for submarine deal by end of year 2014

A Pakistani government minister revealed in March 2011 that China had
 offered to sell up to six submarines to Pakistan although he did not 
specify details of the boats on offer. Western officials in Islamabad 
suggest that China’s subsequent international marketing of the ‘S20′ or 
Yuan-class diesel-electric submarine (SSK) suggests it could be a 
potential option for Pakistan.<br />
A senior Pakistani government official told IHS Jane’s that “the 
technical details are almost done. The present discussions are mainly 
about the financing details”. A second Pakistani government official 
confirmed that “the contract is in an advanced stage and discussions 
will not linger on for too long. Realistically, we should have a deal by
 end 2014″.<br />
The submarine contract would further cement China’s rapidly growing 
role as the main supplier of military hardware to Pakistan’s armed 
forces and fill an important gap in Pakistan Navy (PN) capabilities. The
 PN is known to operate five French submarines: three Agosta 90B 
(Khalid-class) submarines purchased in the 1990s and two ageing Agosta 
70 (Hashmat-class) boats dating from the late 1970s. In 2009, the PN 
sought to purchase three German-built Type 214 submarines, but the plan 
was put on hold due to costs that at the time were reported to be in 
excess of USD2 billion.<br />
Recent Sino-Pakistan contracts of potential interest to Islamabad’s 
strategic interests include China’s agreement to provide two large civil
 nuclear reactors to be based close to Karachi. According to Pakistani 
officials China’s Eximbank agreed to extend a USD6.5 billion loan for 
the two reactors.<br />
Additionally, the Sino-Pakistani-built JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft
 is reportedly the subject of talks between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia: a
 potential deal that Western officials said would not be discussed 
without Beijing’s explicit consent.<br />
COMMENT<br />
A Sino-Pakistan submarine contract will be closely watched by Western
 officials for any signs that may suggest progression towards 
nuclear-powered boats. Pakistan’s defence planners consider the absence 
of such a platform – which they would eventually want to see armed with 
submarine-launched nuclear ballistic missiles – as major disadvantage in
 a potential conflict with India.<br />

<br />
However, Western officials believe China will hesitate to extend such
 advanced technology to Pakistan given the potential for a harsh 
reaction from the United States and its allies.<br />

WASHINGTON: The United States has cut back 
sharply on drone strikes in Pakistan after the government asked for 
restraint while it seeks peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban, the 
Washington Post reported on Tuesday.<br />

The Post quoted a US official as saying, “That's what they asked for,
 and we didn't tell them no.” The newspaper said there had been a lull 
in such attacks since December, the longest break since 2011.<br />

The newspaper said the Obama administration indicated it would 
continue carrying out strikes on senior Al Qaeda officials if they were 
to become available or to thwart any immediate threat to Americans.<br />

Reuters was not immediately able to confirm the report.<br />

The Post quoted a senior Obama administration official as denying an informal agreement had been 
reached, saying, “The issue of whether to negotiate with the Pakistani Taliban is entirely an internal matter for Pakistan.” <br />

While some Pakistanis welcome the strikes, saying they kill fewer 
civilians and are more effective against Taliban militants than 
traditional military operations, others argue the strikes still cause 
civilian casualties, terrify residents and violate Pakistani 
sovereignty.<br />

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said he wants the drone strikes to end.<br />

The Post said the current US pause came after a November strike that killed Pakistani Taliban leader 
Hakimullah Mehsud.<br />

That attack took place a day after the premier's National Security 
and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz was quoted as saying the United 
States had promised not to conduct drone strikes while the government 
tries to engage the Taliban in peace talks.<br />

An annual study by a British-based organisation found that CIA drone 
strikes against militants in Pakistan killed no more than four civilians
 last year, the lowest number of reported civilian deaths since the 
drone program began in 2004.</div>

                        RISALPUR: Militants in Pakistan have found clever ways to hide homemade bombs. <br />

They've been strapped to children's bicycles, hidden inside water jugs and even hung in tree branches. <br />

But the most shocking place that Brig Basim Saeed has heard of such a
 device being planted was inside a hollowed-out book made to look like a
 copy of the holy Quran.   <br />

A soldier who went to pick up the book from the floor was killed when it exploded.  <br />

''Normally if that book is lying somewhere on the floor, you tend to 
pick it up immediately just for respect,'' said Saeed, the chief 
instructor at a school training Pakistani forces how to detect the 
so-called improvised explosive devices, which have become increasingly 
popular in wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the insurgency in Pakistan's 
northwest, near the Afghan border.    <br />

Saeed and other instructors at the military's Counter IED, Explosives
 and Munitions School say it is important to constantly come up with new
 ways to prevent such homemade bombs because that's exactly what the 
militants are doing.  <br />

''Terrorists are also very brainy,'' Saeed said. ''They are using 
different techniques to defeat our efforts also. So we need to be very 
proactive.''   <br />

The Pakistani military has sharply ramped up efforts to deal with 
such devices in recent years as they have emerged as the militants' 
preferred weapon. <br />

So far, 4,042 soldiers from the army and Frontier Corps have been 
killed and more than 13,000 wounded in the war on militants in the 
country's northwest since 2002, according to the Pakistani military. <br />

The homemade bombs account for most of the casualties.  <br />

The US military, which in the past has said Pakistan hasn't done 
enough to restrict the use of certain fertilizers used in bombs in 
Pakistan and targeting foreign and government troops in Afghanistan, 
welcomed the bomb squad school, which formally opened in 2012 on a 
military base in the northwestern city of Risalpur. <br />

''We're very encouraged by the efforts that we understand the 
Pakistanis are taking there,'' said the head of the Pentagon's Joint IED
 Defeat Organisation, Lt Gen. John D Johnson. <br />

The Pakistani military also has moved to restrict the availability of
 calcium ammonium nitrate-based fertilisers frequently used in 
Afghanistan, and to develop a fertiliser dubbed CAN+ that would work on 
Pakistan's soil but not detonate. <br />

And it signed an agreement with the US last year designed to help the
 two countries work together to fight the roadside bombs by sharing 
information in areas such as militant tactics and funding. <br />

US experts are to travel to Pakistan to supply it with hard-won 
knowledge earned in Iraq and Afghanistan. Separately, the British 
military has provided instruction.    <br />

The school's goal is to teach security forces where bombs can be 
hidden, how to look for them and their components and how to gather 
intelligence from them such as fingerprints so that authorities can 
track down militants.  <br />

''The success lies in identifying the network and busting them,'' 
said Lt Col Mohammed Anees Khan, an instructor. ''We need to go after 
those people who are making and planting those IEDs.''  <br />

The Associated Press was the first foreign media outlet to be allowed
 access to the facility, according to the Pakistani military.  <br />

During a recent visit, students were practicing using equipment to 
search for devices planted in the ground or using remote-controlled 
vehicles to approach possible explosive devices. <br />

Others cleared a path to a suspected militant house and marked the 
path with yellow flags so that troops coming behind them would know 
where to walk.   <br />

The school is designed to mimic scenarios the security forces might 
find in real life in classes that last from three to eight weeks.   <br />

It includes a mock urban environment with a market, a gas station and
 other buildings, and explosive devices are even hidden in a pond and a 
graveyard. <br />

Troops practicing a search of a residential compound may accidentally
 open a cupboard, setting off a loud buzzing that signals an explosion. <br />

An escape tunnel leading from one of the houses is rigged with trip wires.  <br />

''We face it whenever we travel or if there is a compound, a path or 
some other place, it is always in our mind that there could be some 
IED,'' said one soldier at the school, Noor ul Ameen, who has served in 
the northwest and the insurgency-plagued Balochistan province. <br />

Most of the students have been from the military, but officials are 
trying to include police and other security agencies because they are 
often the first on the scene when a bomb goes off or an unexploded 
device has been found. <br />

Pakistan's police often lack the training and the equipment to deal 
with such explosives. Even the more equipped army doesn't usually have 
armored vehicles to move troops.<br />

that its Combat Propulsion Systems and Magnet Motors divisions have been
awarded a development contract by the U.S. Army to provide high power
electrical generation for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The first phase for the
Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) is underway, and L-3 will provide 10 system
prototypes in the next two years. <br />

Under this program, L-3 will integrate a permanent magnet starter generator and
the associated power electronics with its 800 horsepower transmission. The L-3
ISG will be an integral component of the hydro-mechanical power transmission
(HMPT), providing all needed vehicle electrical power, as well as the
transmission disconnect clutch and auxiliary pump drive system. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

“Our unique system will enable the Army to increase the power levels for its

president of L-3’s Products Group. “We are very pleased to have successfully
applied this technology for use on military vehicles.” <br />
<br />
The L-3 HMPT-800-EG system will provide substantial electrical power generation
for increasing mission loads and additional integration options for high
capacity auxiliary loads for the Bradley Family of Fighting Vehicles. The
Bradley G40 ISG is sized for power output of 70 to 160kW between 800 and 2800
rpm.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

sell the Humvee to the Chinese military in the late 1980s. At the time, it was
claimed the Chinese thought the vehicles were too big and heavy, which was
probably true. Another issue was likely the high cost — at $21,000 each,
Humvees were not cheap and China was not yet rich.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

previously low-key Humvee famous, and China studied the war extensively. It was

News China</i>, these vehicles, and the gift Humvee, were disassembled and
reverse-engineered. The result was the EQ2050 Mengshi tactical vehicle, which
